“Regardless of the subject, whether images from the past, beautiful topography of this city or a vivid abstract, my need to bring the human element to my work and draw an emotional response from the viewer is vital. It’s been said that my painting evoke that which is universal, yet personal.”

Through her signature process, the rapid application and detraction of oil with knives, Joyce creates works that fall between the realms of real and abstract. By melting these two contrasting genres, Joyce invites the viewer to have a deep role of interpretation in the world that she creates. She tells a story of past and present lives that inhabit the setting by focusing on personal themes.

Joyce Werwie Perry is the 2018 MEDAL OF HONOR winner for painting with the National Association of Women Artists and 2018’s winner of the Polly Magazine National Award with Art Design Consultants in Cincinnati. She is the owner of le Poire Fine Art Studio in Pittsburgh where she paints and teaches her unique knife technique.

Her art has been exhibited at the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Andy Warhol Museum of Art, and the National Arts Club.
